Nairobi | Started on 29/08/2023 – Concluded on 29/10/2023

The inaugural Afrika youth caravan to COP 27 project was a decentralized youth mobilization, aimed at bringing together and meaningfully engaging Afrikan youth in climate leadership. Noting the exclusionary state of funding and actual support of Afrika’s youth, the Kenya Environmental Action Network( KEAN) embarked on this mission, to connect with funders who can financially support the real voices and youth leaders doing the work on-the-ground, to bring their solutions and actions to Sharm El-Sheikh. Through a supported projects team, sub-regional workshops programming, curating of the final statement following the caravan, and supporting of 20 Afrika youth to take part at COP 27, we succeeded in breaking some of the existing barriers on representation and resources needed to empower the real heroes in Afrika.

Project objectives are: – Centre Afrikan youth by tapping into their power, grassroots and local action – Coordinate and bring together youth for sub-regional dialogues/workshops – Formulate an Afrikan Youth Statement to COP 27, from workshops – Bring Youth Action by supporting 20 Afrikan youth to COP 27 – Undertake an in-person Caravan in Egypt

Through the caravan, we brings together youth, communities and leaders, in spaces that showcase and celebrate the local solutions being worked on, and record these stories/solutions in video and visual (also report) formats, shared with delegates and parties at COPS. The caravan also serves as a basis and moment of solidarity in the youth movement, by bringing together and connecting youth, youth initiatives, and grassroots to one another, while celebrating the power of art, storytelling and music to bring us together
