Award Ceremony 2025
Journalism and the greatest story in the world
Science, media, and information narrate the challenges of the climate crisis
October 16, 2025
Torino, Castello del Valentino
“The greatest story in the world”: this is the title chosen a few years ago by the British newspaper The Guardian for a podcast that highlighted the newsroom’s journalistic work on the climate crisis. Behind these words lie all the implications of the relationship between science and journalism: how to communicate the information derived from the vast amounts of data available, how to craft stories about the risks and opportunities of building resilient and adaptive societies, and how to conduct investigations that uncover the hidden aspects of the relationship between human societies and nature in an era of unprecedented knowledge about climate change. These are questions that concern the entire field of journalism, from major international outlets to those covering local realities.
Addressing these questions requires dialogue and collaboration between experiences—both international and local—involving journalists, climate scientists, and policymakers. The CMCC Foundation, an independent international climate research center, contributes to the public debate by hosting, at the opening of the Festival for the Earth (FOR) in Turin, a discussion among experts on the topic, including journalists, communicators, and scientists. Additionally, it presents to the public the experiences and stories of the winners of the international award for climate change communication, the CMCC Climate Change Communication Award, dedicated to Rebecca Ballestra, creator and founder of FOR.
